Vejer de la Frontera, Spain – September 19, 2020 – Marcelo Chirico (URU) and QH Baloudarc LF were unbeatable in the €54,200 Grand Prix CSI 3* today during the Sunshine Tour’s Autumn Tour.
This class was the highlight of the week’s jumping here at Montenmedio and there were 42 entries. The class was held on grass in the David Broome arena with the course designed by the 4* designer, Javier Trenor.
The Uruguayan and the 17-year-old bay Belgian Warmblood gelding (Baloubet de Rouet x Nonstop) earned the victory in a mere 39.21 seconds despited going early on in the jump off, setting a solid challenge to those that followed. The Longines Ranking class that served as a qualifier for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics saw the top four riders all finished in just over 39 seconds.
Despite many brave attempts, no combination managed to beat this time with a clear round. Irish riders took second and third places with Billy Twomey (IRL) very close to the winner’s time aboard Chat Botte ED (Casall x Darco). Their time was 39.28 seconds, giving them second place and finishing off a great set of results here at the Autumn Tour so far. Anthony Condon (IRL) with SFS Vincomte (Veni Vidi Vici x Magic Darco) took third place in 39.72 seconds.
John Whitaker (GBR) who is a legend in showjumping also had a super round today taking 4th place in just 0.07 of a second behind the Irish rider. He was riding Unick Du Francport who is by Zandor and out of a Helio de la Cour II mare.
